KITTY IRVINE - MYSTERIOUS MOORINGS WITH MOUSE CHILDREN'S BOOK SERIES

May 3, 2018

'Mouse' is a small magical canal boat that takes children on an amazing journey along the canals through a fantasy world where they meet mystical characters that help them solve clues to find their promised treasure.

Fred & Lottie’s Magical Canal Adventure

It's the start of the school summer holidays and 11 year old Fred and big sister Lottie are looking forward to a promised trip to Disney World, but there is a problem. Their dad has suddenly been made redundant and their parents feel there is not enough money for extravagances. So instead they are going to stay in a borrowed static caravan in Yardley Gobion ‒ Where's that, ask the children, and what will they find to do there?

When they arrive they are determined to make the most of the situation and set off to explore the area. To their surprise their exploration takes them onto a canal boat, Mouse, which leads them into a magical adventure where they are transported back in time, trying to solve riddles to take them to hidden treasure.

Although the treasure is not at all what they expect, it is nevertheless highly prized.

This is a great book to read aloud had lots of twists and turns and giggles my grandchildren loved it.” – Francesca Clarke

Sam & Lucy’s Magical Canal Adventure

Teenagers Sam and Lucy would rather be spending time in their rooms playing with their computers than going on long walks with their parents.  Their adventure begins one morning when they hear crying and find Myrtle beside the canal with her ‘woofen’, Mompy.  Myrtle is upset because she can’t find her way home so brother and sister decide to help her.

Peter & Emma’s Magical Canal Adventure

Thirteen-year-old Peter and fourteen-year old Emma live in London with their nanny, Mia and David the part time driver.  They rarely see their parents who are both terribly busy and whose work takes them around the world.  Every summer Peter and Emma spend the holidays with Grandpa Jim in his large house by the canal, Boatbuilders Cottage.

This year Grandpa Jim tells them about finding the smallest canal boat he has ever seen and brother and sister discover that he wasn’t exaggerating when they come across Mouse and his occupants, Mr & Mrs Bobbins.

During the adventure that follows, Peter and Emma meet many strange new friends, including Felix the Fumblebee and Tilly & Tippy Willowwood and their brother, Niblick.

About the Author

Kitty Irvine grew up in the north of England and the family spent many wonderful holidays on the west coast of Scotland.

Kitty married her husband in 1985 and in the early 1990’s they moved to a small Scottish island where they lived a very rural life.  It took them one and a half hours to get to the mainland by ferry.  Their water supply came from a ‘wee burn’ and in the winter they collected wood to burn to keep warm.  They learnt many life skills and met some amazing people.

Kitty and her husband were offered a position in private domestic service which involved travelling around the world and, after twenty years, they were lucky enough to take early retirement.

In 2015 they moved onto their wide beam barge and now travel along the canals exploring and discovering new places with their little dog.  They enjoy a quiet and peaceful lifestyle.

Kitty started to write Mysterious Moorings with Mouse after coming across the smallest canal boat she had ever seen.  She wondered how exciting it would be to travel through magical lock gates not knowing where you would be when the lock gates opened.  Fantasy was mixed in with this thought and three exciting and mystical stories with amazing new characters were the result.
